Emotional Awareness Programme for Transition Year students
There is a great demand placed on students in the senior years of secondary school. Students find themselves struggling to find direction in a world of infinite distraction and mixed messages with the technological era of Facebook, the internet and smart phones compounding the influx of information for students to process. The EAP is designed to empower students to meet the challenge of exams, peer pressure and decision making with ease and balance.
The Emotional Awareness Programme will facilitate participants to maintain a constant charged battery throughout the day so that they can be at their best performance in all areas of life not only at school but also with family, friends and in sport.
Through participating in the EAP, students will learn to:
The EAP will focus on 3 primary areas:
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all” Aristotle
Inner ease and emotional awareness
Most of us experience coherence in fleeting moments in our day to day lives. Our mind and emotions are often out of balance and so we feel uneasy, insecure and tend to make choices that are unwise or unhealthy for us and for others. This baseline state many of us find ourselves operating from in today’s world does not need to be a predetermined way of life.
Students will have the opportunity to explore through learning, discussion and practice the diverse range of emotions that we feel on a day to day basis. Students will be encouraged to reflect upon how their thoughts and emotions influence how they perceive themselves, others and their performance in life’s daily activities.
By developing the capacity to be in a state of inner ease students can create the energetic environment for flow to take place in communication, study, relationships and sport or other hobbies. By gaining firsthand experience of the heart and mind co operating together students will get a sense of how they can develop their own emotional resilience to life’s ever changing challenges. We call this Coherence, a state where our mind, heart, body and intentions are in synchronicity and flow.
The Practise of Patience
In our dynamic and fast paced world we find ourselves becoming increasingly impatient. Immediate gratification is a self generated program in us that seems to be raising its head more often. From waiting in queues to an unreturned text message to a web-page not loading we catch ourselves being disgruntled and impatient more frequently. Our patience threshold has decreased as the pace of life has increased.
The programme provides techniques to reset whenever students start to feel impatient. Instead of reacting to events that may trigger impatience the student through personal responsibility and understanding can choose to increase his/her patience threshold and engage a more renewing response. Practising patience allows students to approach situations with calmness and understanding that add enjoyment to life.
In this age of Multi/Social-Media, the lack of clarity at an emotional level can put strain on students and their relationship with family/teacher/examiner/trainer. Authentic communication requires learning to speak from the heart and learn to listen more deeply.
Our programme will teach students about the integral aspects of clear communication. More importantly it will give students the opportunity to practice for themselves heart listening and speaking and reflect on the changes they feel as communication becomes easier and effective.
The programme is designed to incorporate the students to experiment with the HeartMath biofeedback technology in a fun and engaging way. The technology reads the pattern of heart beats in real time and provides feedback in relation to underlying physiology and emotional patterns. The biofeedback technology can provide motivation to continue to apply the techniques in daily life.
”A good head & a good heart are always a formidable combination” Nelson Mandela
We facilitate one or two day workshops which have the advantage of immersion in the material and facilitate deep learning.
We also deliver the course as a series of 2 hour workshops over 4 to 6 weeks. This option allows students to reflect on the material and develop their practice over time.
The course can be delivered in a way that suits the group.
We look forward to working with you,
